Creative Writing

Wow, it has been a long time since we updated this! We've been quite busy, but now have the time to update the blog. Jose wrote a story about what he thought the future would be like. While writing, he learned that the word "saw" is the proper way of saying that he saw something (as opposed to 'I seen the dog'".

Anyways, he did such a good job that we decided to post his story on the blog. Enjoy!

The Fraternity

In the year 2040, the science has advanced by 115%. Adolescents are able to drive at the age of 13 because of the autopilot on hover cars. Buildings are no longer attached to the earth because the concrete surface was melted off forcing us to deport from earth. We now have time travel and can go to other planets including the sun. I am Tex, it is short for Vortex, I was named after my great uncle who lived during 2009, but died in 2010. I am 22-years-old now and I still hangout with my friends from my childhood. My friends are Apolo, Wrekx, Eclipse, and Luna. Eclipse and Luna are the only girls in the group but they both pack a heavy left hand. Back in high school, junior year, we were in class one day. Then a weird thing happened, nobody knew what had happened. The sky had turned purple then a dark red color. Everyone screamed, not because they were scared but because they had went def for a few seconds. Then all of a sudden our ability to move was gone. Everyone looked like they were frozen. But it was as if something or someone was controlling our minds and bodies. Something weird happened to me when I went deaf, I also went blind for about three seconds, but I felt like a man screamed at me. I didn’t hear it but I felt the wind and the saliva on my face. It was quite disgusting but mainly weird. When I had gained my sight back there was a man in a black suit with black glasses walking out of the classroom. What freaked me out more when I got home was that I saw at least three or four guys getting thrown out my front window by my dad. My dad came to me in a very uneasy way, and then he took me to this place. It was in my house, but I never had been near it, nor seen it. He sat me down and said to me “ this isn’t going to be easy to say but I have been part of the secret services since you were born”.

I wasn’t mad but I was shocked that he hadn’t told me about it. “ I think I have a right to know! I am your son” I replied to him in a firm voice. But what he didn’t tell me was that the C.I.A and F.B.I were after him. Well before he could tell me anymore, the men in black suits busted the door down and took my father. I tried to help but when I got to my feet a guy punched me in the head and knocked me unconscious. When I woke up my friends were all above me, I heard them saying “I wonder how he is going to react when he finds out?” I got up and asked “When I know find out what?” What they were talking about was how I had to take on my father’s roll as a secret service agent. What I didn’t know is why they were after my father. My friends drove me to this ware house, it was all black on the outside and on the building wall it said “Sally’s Baked Goods” I was wondering why we were at a bakery. When I got into the building there was nothing but high schoolers standing there. They also had a freaked out look on their faces. “ Hello all! I am Spade, I am your boss and nothing else.” Everyone in the factory looked up in wonder of whom this man was. “ Who are you? And why are we here?” Eclipse screamed out. “ You are here because one of your parents were in a fraternity, this is a fraternity of assassins.” he replied with a grin on his face as if he was laughing at our reactions. “ I am sure you all are wondering where your parents are. Well the truth is your parents are all a part of a mission, mission RED. The mission was to assassinate the governor of the F.B.I and the C.I.A.” I thought, “didn’t my father say he was part of the secret services and aren’t the secret services tied together with both the C.I.A and F.B.I?” Boss, as we call him, says he and a couple of assassins will train us for mission GREEN. Mission GREEN was retrieving our parents and still assassinating the governor, but there was only space for two assassins. I personally wanted to do it but I saw some of the guys there, football players, soccer players, baseball players, even gymnasts were big buff and scary looking. Then from behind Boss three more assassins came out and all were smiling. Boss introduced them all “Greg will be your knife trainer, he will teach you everything you need to know about the knife, and also how to use it.” I saw Greg and he looked… well lets just say he looked like he would be teaching us how to be eating a chicken leg with no hands. “Eve will be your guns trainer, she will teach you how to use a gun, what type of guns for certain types of situations, and my favorite, how to curve the bullet. Then there is Rocky, can anyone guess what he will be training you in?” Rocky looked the scariest: he was tall, buff and had a lot of scars on his face. “Rocky will be your kick boxing trainer, he will teach you how to use your hands as weapons when you are disarmed.” He split us into three groups. My group was Luna, Wrekx, Bobby, and Melissa. Bobby and Melissa’s parents were also taken by the C.I.A and the F.B.I.

It was the first day of training and we had Rocky first. He called on Bobby thinking he was going to beat him bad with his hands, but Bobby was a boxer. Bobby lasted about 20 minutes before he got a kick to the head from Rocky. Rocky laughed as Bobby struggled to get up, then he pointed at me. At this point I wanted to run home like a little schoolgirl. “ Come on kid! Don’t be afraid! Don’t act like a little schoolgirl,” Rocky yelled. I wondered how did he know what I was thinking? How did he know about the schoolgirl that I was thinking about? I didn’t move an inch just stared in shock. Then Eclipse pushed me up there laughing, and then I pushed her arm and looked at her mean. Before I could put my hands up he threw a kick at me but I ducked and ran to the other side of the ring. “C’mon kid! You’re a son of an assassin! You should know how to throw a punch!” he said with a grin on his face. He did this punch but he had jumped in the air and did it. I ducked and tackled him then I got up quickly and in disbelief. I saw the look on his face and he said “that never happened to me!? Whose son are you?” I answered, “ I am Edward’s son, Edward is Vortex senior’s brother.” He looked at me like I had said something foreign to him. The training was going fast but I looked at the clock and saw the time, 12:30 and we had started at 12:00. We had a rotation plan though, kickboxing, gun training and then there was knife training. After kickboxing we were on our way to gun training but our trainer had been in an accident. She got caught by the C.I.A. So we went to knife training, Greg was sharpening his knifes, the sound of the knifes sliding against each other had hypnotized me, then his loud raspy voice woke me up “ ok kids today we are going to learn how to throw knifes and….” Then all of a sudden “RED ALERT!” came out of the speakers. “Kids run away and don’t look back just keep running” said Greg. Then he opened a door in the floor and directed us down, my friends and I were the last people out. Then we saw Greg start to throw his knifes and he yelled “SHUT THE DOOR!” then me and eclipse jumped up down and there was a…

Last week of classes!

Diego couldn't come last week, but he was here this week.
*We mostly worked on math. Quickly, this is what we learned:
**(-)*(-) = +
**2 variables, 2 equations, weill allow you to find the value for two variables.
**-2-3 = -2+(-3)
*Will update later, good job Jose!

We're back!

It's been a while since we updated the blog. Both Jose and Diego have been very busy lately with homework but now we have some time to update you on Jose's progress. Today we learned about:

*The Spider Fly problem for math!
http://mathworld.wolfram.com/SpiderandFlyProblem.html

It has geometry in the problem and the last step to figure out the rest of the problem is the Pythagorean Theorem!!! (exciting)

*Word of the week: decorum

Square roots and triangles

*We practiced finding the lengths of the sides of right triangles using the Pythagorean theorem which is equal to c^2 = a^2 + b^2 .
*This allowed us to also calculate the square roots of numbers by hand. Diego hadn't done
this is a while either so he had to learn it again as well.
*We also learned the word of the week. It was 'burgeon', which we'll define next week.
*Last week's word of the week was 'ameliorate' which means to make better (Jose remembered this correctly after a week!).

Beginning of 2009 schoolyear at EPATT!

We came back today and we talked about our summer and about some long-term goals for Jose. Specifically:
*Good grades to get into college
*Avoiding getting into trouble
*Community service
*Leadership positions

One reason why these are good goals to have are because Jose wants to follow his sister's footsteps and go to college. These are essential for getting into the college of his choice.

Here are some techniques for being able to do this:
*READ EVERYDAY
*Treat people fairly (nicely if possible)
*Stay active in a positive way (ie. sports, volunteering)

Lastly, here are his grades from the beginning of the year:

English: A
Science: C
Math: B
History: C

We did some math problems and Jose came back and was pretty good at multiplication and division! Diego gave him some equations to solve because he was so good at these }:)  Jose knocked those out too though.

Today, Jose will review the steps that he needs to go through in order to solve equations. Here are the goals for solving the equation:
*Simplify the equation as much as you can (only simplify if doing so will make it easier to manipulate the number).
*Make sure that the variable (for example, x) is by itself on one side of the equation.
*Make sure that the variable remains on the numerator.
*What are different ways to write X? X*1 = X and X/1 = X So.....if you ever have a situation where you are multiplying by a number by a fraction, it might ehlp to write your number as a fraction as well. For example, 5*(1/3) could be rewritten as (5/1)*(1/3) = 5/3!

When Amy comes home from college

*These are the things that Jose will talk to Amy about.

  1. How was your first year?
  2. How did you like living away from home?
  3. How did you like your roomate?
  4. Where will you live next year? Who with?
  5. How many credits did you take this quarter? How many will you take next  quarter?
  6. Have you decided on a major yet? If not, which ones are you considering?
  7. How was the food on campus?
  8. What was your favorite class? What was your least favorite class?
  9. What was the name of your favorite professor? How smart was he/she?
  10. What do I need to do in order to get this 'college education'? Do you think that working hard in school BEFORE going to college was worth it now? Or should I just stop now and consider selling hot dogs at a hot dog stand?
